Moreno edges Cermeño again

By Gabriel F. Cordero

In a direct rematch, WBA bantamweight champion Anselmo Moreno (30-1-1, 10 KOs) again won a close split decision over former interim champ Nehomar Cermeño (19-2, 11 KOs) at the Roberto Duran Arena in Panama City. Again it was a close, hotly contested affair riding on the perspective of the judges. Scores were 117-112, 115-113 Moreno, 115-113 Cermeño. Moreno won their first fight by split decision in Venezuala five months ago.

In a clash for the vacant WBA middleweight title, unbeaten WBA #1 ranked Gennady Golovkin (19-0, 16 KOs) needed just 58 seconds to annihilate #13 ranked Milton Nuñez (21-2-1, 19 KOs) in the first round. The WBA belt became vacant when Felix Sturm was elevated to WBA “super champion” status.
