Golovkin opponent named: Osumanu Adama

Unbeaten WBA/IBO middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (28-0, 25 KOs) will defend against Osumanu Adama on February 1 at the Salle des Etoiles in Monte Carlo. Adama has a record of 22-3 with 16 KOs and is currently ranked #14 in the WBA ratings. He previously challenged for the IBF middleweight belt in March 2012, losing a unanimous decision to then champion Daniel Geale in Tasmania, Australia. Adama is promoted by CFC Promotions of Chicago.

Gennady Golovkin: “I’m very happy to return to Monte Carlo and excited to face Adama. I know he’s a very tough opponent and I’m looking forward to putting on another great performance for the fans in Monte Carlo and those watching around the world.”

Osumanu Adama: “This is a fantastic opportunity for me to challenge boxing’s best,” said Adama. “I’ve already begun training and I will bring the titles with me back to Chicago on FEBRUARY 1.”

Tom Loeffler of K2 Promotions: “Gennady is committed to staying active and fighting the toughest opponents willing to get in the ring with him. He’s anxious to make a quick return to the ring and looking forward to the challenge of defending his titles against Adama in Monte Carlo on February 1. Gennady has distinguished himself as among the most popular and most watched boxers in the world, far surpassing many other world champions in TV ratings this year.”

Rodney Berman of Golden Gloves: “Gennady is one of the hottest sporting athletes in the world and we’re honored to promote his return to Monte Carlo. His debut here in March was attended by celebrities from all over Europe including Prince Albert II and Princess Charlene of Monaco as well as boxing legend Marvin Hagler, who all watched from ringside. With his spectacular power and amazing knockout ratio, Golovkin represents the very best of boxing. I couldn’t think of a more exciting fighter to top the bill in Monte Carlo, particularly as he did so well last time. And credit to the challenger, who is one of the few fighters willing to step in against Golovkin.”
