Golovkin set to make USA debut

“I’m very excited to face Grzegorz Proksa on September 1st,” says WBA/IBO middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (23-0, 20 KOs), who will defend against Proksa (28-1, 21 KOs) in his USA debut. The bout was officially announced today. “Proksa has never been in the ring with a puncher like me and I’m here to show the world what I’m made of,” continued Golovkin. “I’ve wanted to fight in the United States for a long time and look forward to fighting the best middleweights in the world in the near future.”

Tom Loeffler of K2 Promotions added, “Gennady trains in America and is committed to fighting here where there have been so many middleweight legends; we’re grateful to HBO for this opportunity to showcase his skills. We strongly feel that he is the BEST middleweight in the world right now and we’re anxious for the world to see that.”

The fight will take place at the Turning Stone Resort in Verona, NY. Ticket information to be announced shortly.

For 18 years,® has delivered daily boxing news to fight fans around the globe. From the beginning, we have always kept Fightnews free to our readers and relied on advertiser support. Anyway, the Miami Herald, The Guardian, and Wikipedia among others have been using the “crowdfunding” revenue model, so we thought we’d test it too.

Please consider helping out. You’re not obligated to, but even a $1 pledge would really help. And if we reach our goal, we plan to upgrade our server and maybe even nuke the ads altogether. Wouldn’t that be nice?
