Golovkin, Simon make weight; bout will now also be for the IBO middleweight title

Only one day left before WBA world middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin will defend his title against Lajuan Simon. Today the two fighters stepped on the scale. Golovkin weighed 71.9 kg (158.5 lbs) and Simon weighed 71.0 kg (156.5 lbs). The officials are WBA Ssupervisor: Jesper Jensen (Denmark), Referee: Jose Ignacio Martinez (Spain), Judges: Pawel Kardyni (Poland), Philippe Verbeke (Belgium) and Artur Ellensohn (Germany). Today the IBO announced that the bout will also be for the vacant IBO world middleweight title.

Tom Loeffler of K2 Promotions: “Both fighters are in great shape and this should be an exciting championship fight. We are happy to have been able to save these two title fights from the cancelled Klitschko vs. Mormeck show. I am sure it is going to be a unique event and a very special atmosphere for the boxing fans.”

The co-feature of this K2 Promotions event will be Isa Akberbayev vs Armin Dollinger. Akberbayev weighed in at 89.5 kg (197.3 lbs), Dollinger will step on the scale tomorrow morning. Additional fights on the card are middleweights Vladimir Schipizin (Neuss, Germany) vs. Toni Camin (Lüneburg, Germany) as well as the female flyweight fight between Raja Amesheh (Karlsruhe, Germany) vs. Julija Cvetkova (Jelgava, Latvia).
