Gomez ready for Granados

By Francisco Salazar

Unbeaten Frankie Gomez (10-0, 8 KO’s) has been used to fighting near his hometown of East Los Angeles, where he has heard cheers or words of encouragement from the crowd. Tonight, the 19 year old will find out what it will be like to fight in someone’s hometown as he takes on local fighter Adrian Granados (8-1-1, 5 KO’s) in the eight round main event bout at the UIC Pavilion in Chicago, IL. The bout will headline a Solo Boxeo Tecate card. Gomez has been training in Big Bear, CA under Abel Sanchez for his last few fights and values the training and sparring he has received at the Summit Gym. “I don’t really like the mountains, but for boxing, it’s good to train up here. I’ve been sparring eight to 10 rounds a day and I’ve been working really hard.” Promoted by Golden Boy Promotions since his professional debut, the soft-spoken Gomez is not overlooking Granados for this fight. “There’s no real videos on him. I’m just going to go in there and do what I do best and take it to him. I’m focused on him 100%.”

For 18 years,® has delivered daily boxing news to fight fans around the globe. From the beginning, we have always kept Fightnews free to our readers and relied on advertiser support. Anyway, the Miami Herald, The Guardian, and Wikipedia among others have been using the “crowdfunding” revenue model, so we thought we’d test it too.

Please consider helping out. You’re not obligated to, but even a $1 pledge would really help. And if we reach our goal, we plan to upgrade our server and maybe even nuke the ads altogether. Wouldn’t that be nice?
