Welterweight contender Alfonso Gomez (23-5-2, 12 KOs) of Anaheim, California by way of Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico will step back into the ring against highly regarded and undefeated prospect Shawn ‘Showtime’ Porter (19-0, 14 KOs) this Saturday July 28th at the HP Pavilion in San Jose, California in the co-feature bout for the vacant NABO welterweight title which is being headlined by three-division world champion Robert ‘The Ghost’ Guerrero (28-1-1, 18 KOs) taking on Selcuk ‘Mini Tyson’ Aydin (23-0, 17 KOs) for the vacant WBC interim welterweight title and will be broadcast live on SHOWTIME’s ‘Championship Boxing.’
Gomez departed for San Jose earlier this week after his final day of training camp at the Azteca Boxing Club in Bell, California. “This is was one of the best training camps I’ve had and I’m ready for Porter. I know I’m the most experienced and toughest fighter he’s faced and he knows it too and that’s going to be the difference in this fight. I trained really hard for Shawn Porter, I feel very strong and I’m very confident right now. I have to win this fight and I know I will.” said Gomez. “I’m very excited to get back in the ring and I know I’m ready for what ever Porter brings to the fight. Shawn said this is his first fight in California and unfortunately for him on Saturday night this is going to be his first loss.” continued Gomez.
