A final press conference was held today at the Crown Plaza Hotel, downtown Monterrey, Mexico, for Saturday night’s WBC super bantamweight title fight between champion Toshiaki Nishioka (33-4-3, 20 KOs), of Japan, and Mexico City’s Jhonny Gonzalez (40-6, 34 KOs). In the co-main event, former world champ Rafael Marquez (37-5, 33 KOs) will stage his return after his three unforgettable wars with Israel Vazquez, in 2007-2008. Marquez faces Colombian Jose Francisco Mendoza (21-2-2, 17 KOs) in a WBC super bantamweight title eliminator.  The card, promoted by Promociones del Pueblo, features three additional ten-rounders.

    Help Support®

For 18 years,® has delivered daily boxing news to fight fans around the globe. From the beginning, we have always kept Fightnews free to our readers and relied on advertiser support. Anyway, the Miami Herald, The Guardian, and Wikipedia among others have been using the “crowdfunding” revenue model, so we thought we’d test it too.

Please consider helping out. You’re not obligated to, but even a $1 pledge would really help. And if we reach our goal, we plan to upgrade our server and maybe even nuke the ads altogether. Wouldn’t that be nice?
