Referee Kenny Bayless has been assigned the job of refereeing the May 23rd title fight in Monterrey, Mexico between WBC Superbantamweight Champion Toshiaki Nishioka (33-4-3, 20 KOs) and Jhonny Gonzalez (40-6, 34 KOs). The Nevada state official was the referee last Saturday night at the Manny Pacquiao vs. Ricky Hatton fight in Las Vegas.
The full line-up for the Promociones del Pueblo card is now secure. In the co-main, former champ Rafael Marquez (37-5, 33 KOs) will stage his return in a 10-round superbantam bout against Colombian Francisco Mendoza (21-2-2, 17 KOs). In a ten-rounder at welter, Michael Medina (19-1, 12 KOs), of Monterrey, is up against Juarez’s Bladimir Hernandez (14-1, 10 KOs). In a ten-rounder at super lightweight, Javier “Zorro” Castro (19-2, 16 KOs) takes on Guadalupe Rosales (20-2, 14 KOs), of Monterrey. Chihauhua super flyweight Victor Zaleta (8-1, 5 KOs) will go ten with Mexico’s Rafael Chavez (14-21-2, 9 KOs) and Marco “Dorado” Reyes (11-0, 10 Kos), also of Chihuahua, is up against Cristian Solano (22-16-4, 16 KOs), of Torreon, in the final two ten-rounders. In an eight-rounder at super feather, Angel Reyna (9-1-1, 4 KOs), of Juarez, takes on Juan Carlos Salgado (19-1, 13 KOs), of Mexico; and Alejandro Barrera (9-0, 7 KOs), of Monterrey, fights Arnold Gamboa (4-6, 3 KOs), of Honduras. – Chris Cozzone
