Gonzalez headlines Mexico City

Former world champ Jhonny Gonzalez (41-7, 35 KOs) will fight on home turf for the first time in eight years when he headlines a Promociones del Pueblo card in Mexico City on Wednesday, Dec. 16 at the Auditorio Plaza Condena. It’ll be Mexico vs. Nicaragua for the rebounding champion when he takes on Marlon “La Rata” Aguilar (21-8-1, 16 KOs) for the WBC International featherweight title. The card, televised on Cadena Tres (Canal 28), will co-feature a WBC Fecombox superflyweight title fight between Oscar “Cebiche” Ibarra (18-4, 10 KOs), of Mexico City, and Francisco “Trompito” Marquez (13-13, 11 KOs), of Guadalajara. Also scheduled: In a battle of Mexico City cruisers, Charly “El Cubano” Duarte (9-1, 7 KOs) takes on Carlos Castillo; Chihuahuan Victor Zaleta (11-1, 6 KOs) takes on Juarez’s Alejandro “Apachito” Moreno (21-26-3, 10 KOs) in a flyweight bout; flyweight Odilon Zaleta (1-0), brother to Victor, takes on TBA; and Chihuahua welter Mario Lozano (9-2, 8 KOs) fights Ernesto Reyna.  – Chris Cozzone
