Gonzalez willing to face Sanchez II

By Gabriel F. Cordero

In surprise news, Promociones del Pueblo accepted the challenge of Mexican prospect Salvador Sanchez II, nephew of Mexican ring legend Salvador Sanchez, to face WBC featherweight world champion Jhonny Gonzalez. The fight would take place in July. “We will give the opportunity to stop once and for all this situation of Sanchez asking the fight,” said promoter Oswaldo Kuchle by phone. “Yesterday we read and other media and we have come to this decision and will inform Jhonny Gonzalez immediately. If Sanchez II wants the fight we are giving it to him. Now we just need to sit down to negotiate the economics, the date and place and we can do it.”

Upon learning of the information Salvador Sanchez II stated, “I have hoped that this moment would come. I’ve waited a long time and I will prepare like never before. It’s time to give everything this Saturday and I’ll rise into the ring even more motivated for this fight. I hope to be more than a challenger the night we go looking for the world title.”

“Although Gonzalez would accept fighting Salvador Sanchez II next, negotiations continue for other fights, mainly against Orlando Salido and this offer of GBP (against Daniel Ponce De Leon) are being studied. We want the best fights for Gonzalez, who did his WBC mandatory against Elio Rojas and has one year for optional defenses so we can find the best thing for him,” concluded Kuchle.

For 18 years,® has delivered daily boxing news to fight fans around the globe. From the beginning, we have always kept Fightnews free to our readers and relied on advertiser support. Anyway, the Miami Herald, The Guardian, and Wikipedia among others have been using the “crowdfunding” revenue model, so we thought we’d test it too.
