The final press conference was held today for Saturday’s main between Z Gorres (28-2-2, 15KOs) and former IBF world champion Roberto ‘Mako’ Leyva (25-8-1, 20KOs). The proceedings took place today at the Waterfront Cebu City Hotel, Cebu City in the Phillipines site of the fight. The bout is scheduled for 12 rounds for the WBO Oriental bantamweight title. Ala Boxing Promotions is promoting the event. The bout preceding the main event also stands to be an entertaining fight where Gorres’ Ala Boxing Promotions stablemate Milan Melindo (17-0, 5KOs) takes on former IBF minimum world champion Muhammed Rachman (62-6-5, 31KOs).

The four fighters released the following statements.

Z Gorres: I feel very strong since moving up from 115 pounds to 118 pounds. It’s far much easier for a fighter to move up in weight than it is to move down. I’m in extremely good condition and expect to put on very good performance.

Roberto Leyva: (Lee Bates translated from English to Spanish): My natural weight is 115 pounds but this opportunity to fight Gorres was too good to turn down. When I fought former world champion Ivan Hernandez at 118 pounds I felt very strong at the weight and the public and can expect for me to perform like a true Mexican warrior come Saturday ngiht.

Muhammad Rachman: I see this fight simply as a tuneup. After defeating Melindo I will be that much closer to fighting for a world title again.

Milan Melindo: This is very important fight in my career. I find it interesting that he looks to fighting me as a tuneup because I see him as a stepping stone to move forward in my career.

Anyway, the Miami Herald, The Guardian, and Wikipedia among others have been using the “crowdfunding” revenue model, so we thought we’d test it too.
