For Russian born Denis Grachev who turned pro at 24 and has just 13 fights under his newly acquired NABF light heavyweight belt, the task of taking on former IBF world champion Lucian Bute who will certainly be looking for redemption after his only career loss will be a formidable one. A task with only one possible solution according to the former MMA fighter who talked to the Montreal media via conference call Tuesday afternoon. “I’m looking for a knockout,” said the undefeated fighter, “If I let my right go, he’ll go down.” The bout can be seen of WealthTV and WealthTV.com.
On November 3rd, Grachev (12-0-1 8KO) visits Montreal’s Bell Centre in Montreal and takes on Lucian Bute (30-1 24KO) on his home turf, the southpaw’s first fight in Montreal in 1-1/2 years. Both fighters are coming off huge surprises that stood the boxing world its collective ear this year, but those surprises are a full 180 degrees from each other.
Grachev was able to endure an initial onslaught from undefeated and hyped prospect Ismayl Sillakh and got up from the canvas to score an 8th round TKO victory. For Bute it was all pain from the opening bell as he stepped into the Cobra’s den and got blasted out in five by Carl Froch.
“It was a huge mistake by Sillakh,” said Grachev, “It’s not about the numbers, it’s what’s in your heart.” The fighter who calls San Diego Ca. home was quick to point out how Sillakh talked of Dawson and Hopkins and ultimately met his demise inside the ring.
“After that fight I didn’t change anything,” said Grachev of the April victory. “It was what I expected. It won’t take me so long this time.
“Nobody broke me in MMA, nobody is going to break me in boxing. I’m going to fight harder than hard; I’m going to fight smarter than smart.”
