IBO cruiserweight champion Danny Green (29-3, 26 KOs) will defend his title against fellow Australian Paul Briggs (26-3, 18 KOs) at the Entertainment Center in Sydney, NSW, Australia on July 21. Green scored the biggest upset of 2009 when he stopped Roy Jones Jr in 2:02 of round one at the Acer Arena in Sydney in December and defended the IBO title successfully. Briggs had his last contest in 2007 when he scored a shut out win over South African Rupert van Aswegen in an IBF regional light heavyweight bout.
Briggs extended the current world heavyweight contender Tomasz Adamek on two occasions in WBC light heavyweight title bouts. In 2005 Briggs pushed Adamek to a twelve round majority decision in Chicago and again in 2006 they again battled over twelve rounds with Adamek visiting the canvas in round one and winning a majority decision in one of the best fights of that year.
Briggs said, “My trainer Billy Hussein and myself are both happy with how I am doing in training.”
Billy Hussein is a former trainer of Danny Green. Danny Green has great respect for his opponents stating he knows Briggs will come to fight and that he has nothing to lose but everything to gain.
Foxtel Main Event pay-per-view will televise the promotion throughout Australia. The promoter is Green Machine Promotions.
