Former WBA light heavyweight champion Danny” The Green Machine” Green (26-3, 23 KO’s) departed Sydney airport today bound for the USA and will challenge for the vacant IBO cruiserweight title against Julio Cesar Dominguez (20-4-1, 14 KOs) at the Gulf Coast Arena in Biloxi, Mississippi on August 15. Green is having his second comeback bout after a brief retirement after he captured the WBA light heavyweight title by scoring a shutout decision over Stipe Drews in 2007. On the same card in Biloxi, boxing great Roy Jones Jr. (53-5, 39 KOs) will clash with Jeff Lacy (25-2, 17 KOs) with the WBO NABO light heavyweight title up for grabs. Green appeared on Channel nine television Sports program on Sunday in Sydney and stated that if Roy Jones defeats Lacy and he defeats Dominguez, a mega bout between Green and Jones will happen in Australia in November.
“Roy is one of the greatest boxers of all time and a bout between him and myself will be a huge fight in Australia. (Green vs Mundine attracted a live gate of over 30,000 fight fans). We have not settled on a venue but we will look at stadiums in each state of Australia. I have to win against Dominguez first. He is a good opponent who walks up so we will not have to look for each other. That will suit me. I have had top preparation with solid sparring against Dominic Vea (OPBF cruiserweight champion) and former world rated middleweight Nader Hamdan. I sparred ten rounds on Saturday,” stated Green, who is trained by Angelo Hyder and managed by Justin Manolikos
