Reports from the New South Wales government in Australia today are indicating that the proposed IBO cruiserweight title fight between Australian Danny Green and Roy Jones Jr will be held in Sydney on November 21st. It was widely expected that Ethiad Stadium in Melbourne was a front runner to hold the bout with a capacity of 50,000 that would accommodate Australia’s biggest and most anticipated fight ever. However, the NSW premier Nathan Ress confirmed today, “This is the biggest fight in Australian boxing history and we will be arranging a huge spectacle for the people of the country. After such a great win in the USA I am sure the people of Australia want to get behind Danny Green in a fight that all of us want to see. We will be planning a number of big events in the build up to the fight that will beam Australia all around the globe.” Many people expect a live gate in excess of 40,000 for the bout and Sydney possesses a number of relevant venues with the Sydney Football Stadium holding 45,000 and Stadium Australia, which was built for the 2000 Olympics, holds a capacity of 83,000 fans. Either would be the preferred option in the city.
