Green-Siaca moved to Perth

By Ray Wheatley — World of Boxing

IBO cruiserweight champion Danny Green will switch his scheduled world title bout against Manny Siaca from Sydney to Perth after Western Australian government have agreed to provide backing. The bout will be at the Challenge Stadium, Perth on April 14. Sports Minister Terry Waldron said, “There were some misunderstandings. That was unfortunate. The last fight (Jones vs Green ) was in Sydney and that’s been and gone. “The great thing about gaining this fight here is that it puts us in a good position to perhaps get the fight – and I’m sure it will happen – between Danny Green and Anthony Mundine. Manny Siaca is the man that beat Mundine back in 2003.”

Challenge Stadium has hosted most of Green’s fights since his professional career began in 2002. Manny Siaca will start underdog against Green who stopped boxing legend Roy Jone Jr in 122 seconds in December 2009. Siaca will have to build up as he had his most recent fight at middleweight poundage outpointing George Klinesmith and has only boxed five times since he was in Australia in 2004 when he defeated Anthony Mundine.

For 18 years,® has delivered daily boxing news to fight fans around the globe. From the beginning, we have always kept Fightnews free to our readers and relied on advertiser support. Anyway, the Miami Herald, The Guardian, and Wikipedia among others have been using the “crowdfunding” revenue model, so we thought we’d test it too.
