Groves’ cut causes venue change

Promoter Frank Warren’s September 14th event, originally due to take place at Wembley Arena, has switched venues and will now take place at York Hall following the withdrawal of super middleweight George Groves, who suffered a deep cut over his right eye last Saturday on the Guerrero-Aydin undercard. Groves was slated to defend his British and Commonwealth belts against Kenny Anderson.

Former Olympian Billy Joe Saunders will now top the bill with a mandatory defense of his Commonwealth Middleweight Championship against unbeaten Australian Jarrod Fletcher. The rest of the card remains unchanged. All tickets that have been already purchased for Wembley Arena can be exchanged by Frank Warren Promotions for the new venue.

    Help Support®

For 18 years,® has delivered daily boxing news to fight fans around the globe. From the beginning, we have always kept Fightnews free to our readers and relied on advertiser support. Anyway, the Miami Herald, The Guardian, and Wikipedia among others have been using the “crowdfunding” revenue model, so we thought we’d test it too.

Please consider helping out. You’re not obligated to, but even a $1 pledge would really help. And if we reach our goal, we plan to upgrade our server and maybe even nuke the ads altogether. Wouldn’t that be nice?
