Guerrero, Casamayor 100% ready

Pledging 100% preparedness for their July 31 showdown, former champs Robert Guerrero (26-1-1. 18 KOs) and Joel Casamayor (37-4-1, 22 KOs) showed mutual respect toward one another during a teleconference held today.  The two will clash on the Juan Manual Marquez – Juan Diaz II card on HBO PPV, promoted by Golden Boy from the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas.

“He’s definitely the toughest guy I’ve ever fought,” said Guerrero. “He’s been there, done that – a very experienced guy and I can’t afford to take him lightly. He’s one of the big name fighters out there – and a lefty.”

“Robert Guerrero is one of the best upcoming fighters in the world,” said Casamayor. “But beating Guerrero puts me in line for anyone. More than anything, I want a rematch with Juan Manual Marquez. Beating Guerrero gets me that – that’s why I took the fight.”

For 18 years,® has delivered daily boxing news to fight fans around the globe. From the beginning, we have always kept Fightnews free to our readers and relied on advertiser support. Anyway, the Miami Herald, The Guardian, and Wikipedia among others have been using the “crowdfunding” revenue model, so we thought we’d test it too.

Please consider helping out. You’re not obligated to, but even a $1 pledge would really help. And if we reach our goal, we plan to upgrade our server and maybe even nuke the ads altogether. Wouldn’t that be nice?
