Guillermo Jones Update

By Gabriel F. Cordero

Sources have reported to that WBA cruiserweight champion Guillermo Jones could pull out of his October 27 fight against Andre Taylor slated to take place in the Poliedro de Caracas in Venezuela. Promoter Don King announced last Wednesday in Panama City that Jones would make an optional defense, then supposedly face interim titleholder Denis Lebedev on December 22. King also stated he had the support of the governments of Panama and Venezuela for profesional boxing in those countries. Unofficial sources report that Jones will not fight, citing a hand injury. Nothing official has been announced.

    Help Support®

For 18 years,® has delivered daily boxing news to fight fans around the globe. From the beginning, we have always kept Fightnews free to our readers and relied on advertiser support. Anyway, the Miami Herald, The Guardian, and Wikipedia among others have been using the “crowdfunding” revenue model, so we thought we’d test it too.

Please consider helping out. You’re not obligated to, but even a $1 pledge would really help. And if we reach our goal, we plan to upgrade our server and maybe even nuke the ads altogether. Wouldn’t that be nice?
