The Austrian winter sports mecca of Sölden will host a high voltage super middleweight bout on Friday when unbeaten Spotlight fighter Eduard “Eddy” Gutknecht (17-0, 7 KOs) defends his WBO Inter-Continental belt against former WBO world champion Karoly Balzsay (21-1, 15 KOs). It will be Balzsay’s first fight since losing his title to Robert Stieglitz in August. Also scheduled is a WBO Inter-Continental super bantamweight clash between Spotlight’s Zsolt Bedak (14-0, 4 KOs), rated WBO #3 and WBO #4 Ramie Laput (38-3, 18 KOs).
Eduard Gutknecht: “We know each other from Hamburg, but we’re in different training groups. I’m with Magomed Schaburow. Karoly is with Fritz Sdunek and Artur Grigorian. One of us is going fade out [of the title picture], so for us this is about everything!”
Karoly Balzsay: “Naturally it was very disappointing in Budapest to lose in front of all my relatives and friends. It’s good that I’m now returning to the ring quickly to show my strength.”
