Gutknecht defeats Balzsay

Former WBO super middleweight champion Karoly Balzsay (21-2, 15 KOs) suffered his second straight defeat in his much anticipated comeback fight on Friday night at the Freizeit Arena in the Austrian winter sports mecca of Sölden. Unbeaten WBO super middleweight intercontinental titleholder Eduard “Eddy” Gutknecht (18-0, 7 KOs) retained his belt by taking a twelve round split decision. Scores were 115-113, 116-112 for Gutknecht and 116-113 for Balzsay.
In an important WBO bantamweight intercontinental clash, WBO #3 Zsolt Bedak scored a seventh round KO over WBO #4 Ramie Laput.
Also WBC flyweight world champion Simona Galassi (12-1, 3 KOs) outpointed Aziza Oubaita (9-2-1, 4 KOs) to successfully defend her belt. Galassi is targeting WBA/WIBF/WBO champion Susi Kentikian.

    Help Support®

For 18 years,® has delivered daily boxing news to fight fans around the globe. From the beginning, we have always kept Fightnews free to our readers and relied on advertiser support. Anyway, the Miami Herald, The Guardian, and Wikipedia among others have been using the “crowdfunding” revenue model, so we thought we’d test it too.

Please consider helping out. You’re not obligated to, but even a $1 pledge would really help. And if we reach our goal, we plan to upgrade our server and maybe even nuke the ads altogether. Wouldn’t that be nice?
