Guzman-Allakhverdiev collide for vacant WBA belt

By Reynaldo Sanchez

Joan “Little Tyson” Guzman (33-0-1, 20 KOs) is preparing to fight for the vacant WBA super lightweight crown against IBO titleholder Khabib Allakhverdiev (17-0, 8 KOs). The belt was formerly held by Marcos Maidana who moved up in weight. A few weeks ago, Guzman’s promoter Henry Rivalta began talks with Allakhverdiev promoter Vladimir Hrunov and the fight is now 100% for November 30 at a WBA “KO Drugs” promoted by Acquinity Sports at the Bank Atlantic Center in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Rivalta stated, “This fight will be the main event of the night we present the first KO Drugs event in the United States. We’re excited to present this world title fight. We’re the most active promoter in Florida and we are committed to presenting the best in our fight cards.”

    Help Support®

For 18 years,® has delivered daily boxing news to fight fans around the globe. From the beginning, we have always kept Fightnews free to our readers and relied on advertiser support. Anyway, the Miami Herald, The Guardian, and Wikipedia among others have been using the “crowdfunding” revenue model, so we thought we’d test it too.

Please consider helping out. You’re not obligated to, but even a $1 pledge would really help. And if we reach our goal, we plan to upgrade our server and maybe even nuke the ads altogether. Wouldn’t that be nice?
