The WBA interim super lightweight world title fight between Joan “Little Tyson” Guzman and Vicente “El Loco” Mosquera is in jeopardy after Guzman weighed in a whopping eight pounds over the division limit on Friday in Kissimmee, Florida. Guzman scaled in at 148.2 pounds, while Mosquera was on weight at 140, so if the fight comes off, only Mosquera would be eligible for the title. “Right now we are still working on an agreement to go ahead with the fight,” promoter Tuto Zabala Jr. informed Fightnews.com. “A final decision will be made tomorrow at 9AM, but it looks good.”

Guzman has a history of not making weight. He previously failed to make weight for a 2008 lightweight title fight against Nate Campbell, a 2010 lightweight title fight with Ali Funeka and a 2010 tuneup against Jason Davis.

For 18 years, Fightnews.com® has delivered daily boxing news to fight fans around the globe. From the beginning, we have always kept Fightnews free to our readers and relied on advertiser support. Anyway, the Miami Herald, The Guardian, and Wikipedia among others have been using the “crowdfunding” revenue model, so we thought we’d test it too.

Please consider helping out. You’re not obligated to, but even a $1 pledge would really help. And if we reach our goal, we plan to upgrade our server and maybe even nuke the ads altogether. Wouldn’t that be nice?
