Haiti update

Haitian businessman and promoter Jacques Deschamps has reassured his many friends in the boxing world that he is fine even though his home was damaged by the terrible earthquake that hit Haiti. However, two prospects from his stable, junior welterweight Evens Pierre (12-0, 11 KOs) and junior featherweight Johny Orisme (4-1, 1 KO) have not been accounted for as of yet. Both young men are based in Panama but were visiting their family during the end-of-the-year holidays. For his part, former WBC junior flyweight champion Edgar Sosa, signed with Deschamps, is organizing a relief fund in Mexico to come to the aid of the beleaguered Caribbean island. Haitian-origin boxing champions Andre Berto, Jean Pascal and middleweight contender Daniel Edouard are also involved in rescue missions to help their countrymen. The WBC and the WBA have issued statements of solidarity with Haitian people, a clear message that the boxing world feels deep concern for Haiti’s tragedy.

    Help Support®

For 18 years,® has delivered daily boxing news to fight fans around the globe. From the beginning, we have always kept Fightnews free to our readers and relied on advertiser support. Anyway, the Miami Herald, The Guardian, and Wikipedia among others have been using the “crowdfunding” revenue model, so we thought we’d test it too.

Please consider helping out. You’re not obligated to, but even a $1 pledge would really help. And if we reach our goal, we plan to upgrade our server and maybe even nuke the ads altogether. Wouldn’t that be nice?
