A sold out crowd of enthusiastic Southern California fight fans turned out at the always popular Battle In The Ballroom at the Irvine Marriott to see a six round heavyweight main event featuring undefeated Joe “The Future“ Hanks. From the opening bell it appeared as if Couser’s main intention was to find somewhere soft in the ring to lie, and he found the perfect spot to do so and was counted out by the referee at just 2:22 of the first round. Hanks kept his record perfect and moved to 11-0, 7 KOs without breaking a sweat over the shot Couser (26-21-2, 14 KOs) who dropped his ninth fight in a row.
With his last two victories over Cliff Couser and John Clark, Hanks has beaten fighters with a combined record of 2-14 over their last 8 fights coming in. He now looks ready to step up the level of opposition.
In the semi main event, a four round lightweight contest, local favorite Arquimedez Garcia met undefeated Manuel Delcid. In a lackluster affair, with both fighters fighting at a very measured pace, Delcid, by way of unanimous decision, improved to 3-0 while Garcia drops to 4-2-1 (2 KO’s).
In supporting action, a four round heavyweight affair, Kortney Boden outslugged Chris Davis, leaving him helpless and causing referee, Raul Caiz, Jr., to waive off the fight. Boden, by way of TKO at 1:51 in the 3rd Round improves to 2-0 (1ko), while Davis drops to 1-1 (1 KO).
In opening action, a four round jr. featherweight contest, it was a slugfest as Jonathon Alcantara met Emmanuel Castro. Castro proved the better fighter in the eyes of judges and emerged victorious by Unanimous Decision to improve his record to 2-0 (1 KO) while Alcantara was respectable in defeat but dropped to 2-2.
Promoter for the event was Roy Englebrecht Promotions. Battle In The Ballroom returns to the Irvine Marriott on April 1st.
