Happy 25th Birthday Victor Ortiz

“Vicious” Victor Ortiz (29-3-2, 22 KOs) celebrated his 25th Birthday on Tuesday with members of the media and the Big Brothers & Big Sisters of Ventura County at Knuckleheadz Gym in Ventura. Ortiz was also scheduled to have a media workout in preparation for his rematch with Andre Berto (28-1, 22 KOs), which is now off. “I feel good. I am 25 years old now and a year older,” Ortiz commented on his Birthday.

However the other news of the day was disappointing, as Andre Berto suffered a torn bicep injury during training. Ortiz received the news Monday evening as his fight with Andre Berto had been postponed. “I was devastated when my manager Rolando Arellano told me. ‘I have some bad news,’ he explained to me, ‘Berto has injured himself,’” said Ortiz.

The bout was a rematch of one the best fights of 2011. Andre Berto vs. Victor Ortiz was scheduled to take place Saturday February 11 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas on Showtime. “I just wish him the best I hope he has a quick recovery. That way we get in the ring soon,” Ortiz commented on Berto’s injury.

The bad news did not overshadow the happiness of Ortiz from celebrating his birthday as he was given a birthday cake by the Big Brothers & Big Sisters of Ventura County.

“They have a cake for me and I am ready to munch it.”

Ortiz also spent the time talking to the kids as they had lunch. Big Brothers & Big Sisters of Ventura County is a mentor organization helping youths in Ventura County and Victor Ortiz serves as Ambassador for the organization.

Ortiz also discussed another alternative now that his fight with Berto is off.

“To tell you the truth, I am ready to box now but I heard somewhere along the grapevine that Floyd Mayweather needs an opponent to fight against,” Ortiz told Fightnews.com.
