Fightnews.com wishes Hall of Fame promoter Bob Arum a happy 80th birthday! Coming off two successful pay-per-view megafight promotions in the last two months, the Top Rank CEO has been at the pinnacle of the sport ever since he got into it in 1966 by presenting a world heavyweight championship fight featuring ring legend Muhammad Ali in his promotional debut. Since then, Top Rank, under Arum’s leadership, has promoted roughly 11,500 fight cards around the globe featuring the following fighters: Oscar De la Hoya, George Foreman, Thomas Hearns, Roberto Duran, Sugar Ray Leonard, Julio Cesar Chavez, Mike Tyson, Larry Holmes, and many others.

He has no plans to slow down. “It just gets bigger and better,” Arum told Fightnews.com recently. “We’re going to have more shows, we’re going to have more sponsors, whatever you saw this year will not compare to what next year has in store!”

    Help Support Fightnews.com®

For 18 years, Fightnews.com® has delivered daily boxing news to fight fans around the globe. From the beginning, we have always kept Fightnews free to our readers and relied on advertiser support. Anyway, the Miami Herald, The Guardian, and Wikipedia among others have been using the “crowdfunding” revenue model, so we thought we’d test it too.

Please consider helping out. You’re not obligated to, but even a $1 pledge would really help. And if we reach our goal, we plan to upgrade our server and maybe even nuke the ads altogether. Wouldn’t that be nice?
