Hard Hittin’s debut Friday

Preview by Pat Kelley

Hard Hittin’ Promotions has announced that it will make its much-anticipated promotional debut on Friday, February 27, at Ken Shamrock’s Lions Den Fitness Center in Middletown, Connecticut. The event, which promises to be action-packed, will be headlined by a six-round main event between Hartford, CT heavyweight Tony “TNT” Grano (14-1-1, 12 KO’s) and Rochester, New York’s Jermell “The Truth” Barnes (18-18-2, 4 KO’s).

Grano, a promising young heavyweight, and one of New England’s most popular fighters, will be returning to the ring for the first time since his shocking upset loss at the hands of Mark “Oak Tree” Brown last September. In Barnes, Grano will face a seasoned veteran who’s chin will certainly test the power of the heavy-handed Grano, as Barnes has only been stopped once in his professional career.

“Credit goes out to Team Grano,” stated matchmaker Danny Sheehan. “They held themselves to a higher standard. They could have opted to take a soft step back into the ring, but they want to show that Grano is still a guy to be reckoned with in the heavyweight division. What better way to do so than taking on a guy like Barnes, who is capable of upsetting any of the divisions upper echelon fighters.”

In the evening’s co-feature bout Worcester, Massachusetts native Adam Harris (10-1, 7 KO’s) takes on Philadelphia’s Simon Carr (4-3-1, 1 KO) in a six-round cruiserweight affair. Harris, like Grano, will also step into the ring coming off the first loss of his professional career. Two of Carr’s three losses have come via very close decisions, while he nearly avenged his first loss to Andre Hemphill with a draw in their rematch.

In a special undercard attraction undefeated Philadelphia prospect Hank Lundy (12-0-1, 6 KO’s) takes on an opponent to be announced soon, in a six-round lightweight bout. While Lundy has fought most of his thirteen bouts in the junior welterweight division, he will now return to the 135 pound lightweight division, where he intends to stay.

Also slated for action on the undercard action:

Martin Wright (7-0-2, 3 KO’s) vs. Shad Howard (13-13-3, 6 KO’s) 6 Rounds – Welterweights

Juan Nazario (6-1, 4 KO’s) vs. Jason Rorie (2-2-1, 1 KO) 6 Rounds – Junior Lightweight

Keith Kozlin (2-0, 1 KO) vs. Brandon Burke (0-4-1) 4 Rounds – Super Middleweight

The September 27th fight card promises to be the first of many Hard Hittin’ Promotions events, as they are currently slated to put on nine boxing shows within the next year, many of which will also take place at Ken Shamrock’s Lions Den Venue.

Doors to the event open at 6 PM, with the first bout slated to begin at 7 PM. Tickets are available by calling 860.857.5061
