Harry Simon still unbeaten, wins vacant IBF International light heavyweight title

By Ron Jackson

Former WBO light middleweight and middleweight champion Harry Simon of Namibia boxed his way to an impressive 12 round points decision over Geard Ajetovic of Serbia to win the vacant IBF International light heavyweight title in Windhoek, Namibia on Saturday night. The scores were 117-111 twice and 116-113 all in favour of Simon. The 41-year-old Simon (79.25kg) looking a bit fleshy around the middle was just too clever for the 32-year-old Ajetovic (78.55kg) who never really got into the fight as he battled to get past the educated left jab of the Namibian. Simon was also able to score with stinging combinations to the head. The shorter Ajetovic who fights out of Prescot in the United Kingdom also holds the WBO European super middleweight title, possibly shaded three rounds when Simon who paced himself so well decided to take some rounds off. Simon improves his record to 29-0, 21 KOs and Ajetovic drops to 23-9-1, 11 KOs. The referee was Simon Xamlashe of South Africa.
