Hazegawa-Gonzalez to Mexico?

By Gabriel F. Cordero

Sources report that Mexican promoter Oswaldo Kuchle of Promociones del Pueblo and Japan’s Akihiko Honda of Teiken Promotions could meet this weekend in Las Vegas, Nevada, to try to reach an agreement for the fight between WBC featherweight world champion Hozumi Hasegawa and mandatory challenger and former world champion Jhonny Gonzalez in early 2011. Promociones del Pueblo and Teiken Promotions are currently in ‘free negotiations’ and have until January 10 to make an arrangement. If no agreement is reached, the WBC will hold a purse bid for the fight. Apparently the Mexican company wants to bring Hasegawa to Mexico to defend his belt, possibly in the Arena Mexico in Mexico City.

For 18 years,® has delivered daily boxing news to fight fans around the globe. From the beginning, we have always kept Fightnews free to our readers and relied on advertiser support. Anyway, the Miami Herald, The Guardian, and Wikipedia among others have been using the “crowdfunding” revenue model, so we thought we’d test it too.

Please consider helping out. You’re not obligated to, but even a $1 pledge would really help. And if we reach our goal, we plan to upgrade our server and maybe even nuke the ads altogether. Wouldn’t that be nice?
