HBO picks up Bika-Sjekloca

Golden Boy Promotions has announced that HBO will televise the 12-round WBC super middleweight title eliminator between unbeaten number one rated contender Nikola Sjekloca and number two rated contender Sakio “The Scorpion” Bika before Adrien Broner defends his world title against Gavin Rees on Saturday at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, New Jersey. Bika-Sjekloca replaces the heavyweight rematch between Johnathon Banks and Seth Mitchell that was KO’d after Banks suffered a broken thumb.

The non-televised undercard will feature a USBA junior middleweight title fight between Charles Whittaker and Demetrius Hopkins, a junior lightweight bout pitting Vicente Escobedo against Edner Cherry and appearances by 2012 United States Olympians Rau’Shee Warren and Jamel Herring.

For 18 years, Fightnews.com® has delivered daily boxing news to fight fans around the globe. From the beginning, we have always kept Fightnews free to our readers and relied on advertiser support. Anyway, the Miami Herald, The Guardian, and Wikipedia among others have been using the “crowdfunding” revenue model, so we thought we’d test it too.

Please consider helping out. You’re not obligated to, but even a $1 pledge would really help. And if we reach our goal, we plan to upgrade our server and maybe even nuke the ads altogether. Wouldn’t that be nice?
