Hearns Back In Action

By Bob Ryder

Friday night brings the return of Ronald “The Chosen One” Hearns to the Detroit area as he seeks to rebound from two consecutive defeats including a knockout loss to Erislandy Lara, as he takes on Derrick Findley of Gary, IN. Hearns will headline the show at the Sportsplex in the Motor City suburb of Taylor on the card presented by promoters George Kaltsas and Thomas Hearns (Hitman Entertainment). The main event is scheduled for 8 rounds.

Another feature fight has Detroit’s newly crowned WBC United States welterweight champ Lanardo Tyner taking on Angel Rios of the Bronx, NY in a non title 6 rounder. Rios was last seen in a Michigan ring in June when he gave Holland’s Johnny Garcia all he could handle over the distance.

Fast rising Kronk light middleweight Tony Harrison also sees action on Friday night against Marqus Jackson of Atlanta. Harrison’s last fight was cancelled when the entire card fell through at the last minute. The undefeated Harrison will be looking to register his 10th straight victory.

In a group of 4 round contests, local Kronk Gym boxers William McElroy, Leandre White, Anthony Barnes and Anthony Gallerani face separate opposition. Barnes and Gallerani will be making their pro debuts. Two Ohio natives Adrian Wilson and Dustin Caplinger face each other to round out the show.

The event will be streamed live across the globe from the Taylor Sportsplex in Taylor, Michigan, and will be available via pay per view webcast.

Taylor Sportsplex is located at 13333 Telegraph, just south of Northline.

Tickets for the event are on sale now at, and start at $25. Exclusive $70 Ringside VIP and $50 Floor VIP seats are limited in number. Doors open at 6:30, first bell 7:30PM.

    Help Support®

For 18 years,® has delivered daily boxing news to fight fans around the globe. From the beginning, we have always kept Fightnews free to our readers and relied on advertiser support. Anyway, the Miami Herald, The Guardian, and Wikipedia among others have been using the “crowdfunding” revenue model, so we thought we’d test it too.

Please consider helping out. You’re not obligated to, but even a $1 pledge would really help. And if we reach our goal, we plan to upgrade our server and maybe even nuke the ads altogether. Wouldn’t that be nice?
