The Mexican world title challenger and interim WBA super flyweight Hernan “Tyson” Marquez had a workout for the media in preparation for this Saturday’s bout against the Filipino champion Nonito “Flash” Donaire. The boxing event named “The Challenge” takes place this Saturday at the Coliseo José Miguel Agrelot, in San Juan, Puerto Rico. The main event features the world championship fight between WBO featherweight champ Juan Manuel Lopez and the Filipino challenger Bernabe Concepcion. The bouts are presented by Top Rank and PR Best Boxing and will be televised internationally by Showtime and TV Azteca in Mexico. 15,000 fans are expected to attend.
Marquez (27-1, 20 KOs) exercised for the media at the Wilfredo Gomez Gym in the city.
“I’m almost ready, I’m already the correct weight but I’m watching it. I’m excited to get into the ring and fight against Donaire. I’m going to take the belt and give the public a great fight,” said Marquez, who is trained by Rudy Perez.
Marquez was receiving tips at the gym from the double world champion Ivan Calderon, who is a southpaw just like Marquez.
“It was a pleasure to personally meet a big star like Calderon, who gave me several tips and important things that I can apply during the fight against Nonito. He is a lefty like me and I appreciate the advice,” said the 21-year-old Mexican challenger.
Hernan Marquez also met his music icon, Daddy Yankee, at the gym.
Later that day, Filipino Nonito Donaire made his public workout.
Tomorrow at the Hotel Verdanza, in San Juan will be the official weigh-in for the fighters.
