Hernandez stops Kakutani in four to retain WBC 108lb title; Garcia loses WBA female bantam belt

In a war, WBC light flyweight champion Adrian “Confesor” Hernandez (28-2-1, 17 KOs) scored a fourth round KO over Atsushi Kakutani (13-4-1, 6 KOs) to retain his belt on Saturday night at the Gimnasio San Juan de la Barrera in Mexico City. In a clash filled with vicious exchanges, Hernandez recovered from a first round knockdown to drop Kakutani three times in round four. The bout was finally waved off by referee Jerry Cantu at 1:12.

In the co-feature, previously unbeaten WBA female bantamweight champion Irma Garcia (7-1-1, 1 KO) was dethroned by three-fight novice Jessica Gonzalez (now 3-1, 0 KOs). The bout ended in a split decision with two cards favoring Gonzalez by scores of 97-94, 96-94. Garcia was up 96-94 on the third card.
