“The Reckoning” is here. Pound-for-pound champ of women’s boxing, Anne Sophie Mathis, and former queen, Holly Holm, met Wednesday at a final presser held for Friday’s long-awaited rematch at Route 66 west of Albuquerque. Both fighters showed respect for one another, though vowed they would come out ahead.
“Losing is not an option,” stated Holm.
Mathis was tight-lipped about strategy, saying only that she is more than ready to leave Albuquerque a winner a second time.
In the co-main event, fighting six rounds, Albuquerque bantam Raymond “Hollywood” Monte takes on Jaime Gutierrez. On the undercard: Albuquerque welter Cristian Cabral fights Socorro’s Victor Silva; featherweight Eric Gonzalez, of Albuquerque, takes on Gene Perez of Belen; Santa Fe veteran Bryan Garcia stages a return in a four-rounder against Roswell’s John “Smiley” Herrera; and, in the opener, in a battle of debuting welters, Jose Luis Sanchez takes on Guy Youell.
