Holm TKOs Yankovich in fourth

_coz1629bFrom the Isleta Resort & Casino south of Albuquerque, N.M.: In her most dominating performance to date, Holly Holm (24-1-3, 7 KOs), of Albuquerque utterly punished, and stopped Duda Yankovich (11-1, 5 KOs). Yankovich was hit with big left after big left through three rounds. In the second, a lead right broke Yankovich’s nose. In the fourth, on advice of the physician, Referee Rocky Burke waved it off at :32. In the eight-round cruiser co-main, “Mad” Mike Alderete (6-4-2, 3 KOs), of Albuquerque, and Theo Kruger (9-8-2, 3 KOs), of Port Charlotte, Fla, fought to a majority draw with scores of 76-76 twice and 77-75, Alderete. On the undercard: Angelica Chavez (0-1), of Albuquerque’s Chavez Dojo, was destroyed by Gloria Salas (1-2, 1 KO), of Ontario, Calif. Chavez slugged in the first but Salas’ far superior boxing skills – and a right hand that could not miss – put Chavez down twice in the second before Ref Rocky Burke stopped the action at 1:27. In a four-rounder at cruiser, debuter Michael Brooks (1-0, 1 KO) won by TKO at 2:27 of the second over Dallas southpaw Brandon Singleton (2-3, 1 KO); In a four-round cruiserweight bout, Antonio Zamora  (1-0, 1 KO), of the Chavez Dojo in Albuquerque, needed just :52 to dispose of MMA fighter Dominic Perea  (0-1), who was down twice before the stoppage; in the opening bout, MMA fighter David Quezada (1-0, 1 KO), outweighing his foe by 13.5 lbs., TKO’d 157-pounder Israel Rodriguez (0-1), of Las Cruces, in round two. –– Results & photo by Chris Cozzone

    Help Support®

For 18 years,® has delivered daily boxing news to fight fans around the globe. From the beginning, we have always kept Fightnews free to our readers and relied on advertiser support. Anyway, the Miami Herald, The Guardian, and Wikipedia among others have been using the “crowdfunding” revenue model, so we thought we’d test it too.

Please consider helping out. You’re not obligated to, but even a $1 pledge would really help. And if we reach our goal, we plan to upgrade our server and maybe even nuke the ads altogether. Wouldn’t that be nice?
