The Bernard Hopkins-Chad Dawson light heavyweight title fight has been penciled to take place at the Prudential Center in Newark, NJ, on October 15th. However, there is a possibility that the bout could take place at STAPLES Center in Los Angeles, CA, Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer told a small group of reporters, including Fightnews.com, on Tuesday afternoon. Hopkins (52-5-2, 32 KO’s) is scheduled to defend his world title belt against Dawson that he won from Jean Pascal in a rematch in May at the Bell Centre in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Also on the same card, Dawson (30-1, 17 KO’s) won a 12 round unanimous decision over Adrian Diaconu. Schaefer admits that nothing has been officially signed and he would still need to negotiate with Gary Shaw, Dawson’s promoter, for the fight to be brought out to the west coast. Hopkins has fought at STAPLES Center before, winning a clear-cut 12 round unanimous decision over Howard Eastman in February of 2005.
