Former Australian heavyweight champion John Hopoate (12-4, 11 KOs) will return to ring action on December 4 when he will clash with Michael Kirby (6-3-1, 4 KOs) over twelve rounds with the IBF Australasian title up for grabs at the Newcastle Entertainment Centre, Newcastle, NSW, Australia. Hopoate was stopped in two rounds by former WBC heavyweight champion Oliver McCall earlier this year but is confident he can defeat the less experienced opponent. Kirby holds a nine round stoppage win over Nathan Briggs but was upset by Solomon Haumona to lose the OPBF crown in 2009.
In main supporting bout Australian heavyweight champion Colin Wilson (35-25-1, 21 KOs) will defend the title against former 2000 Olympian Justin Whitehead (4-0, 2 KOs) over ten rounds. Wilson has been in the ring with several world rated heavyweights including Shane Cameron, Kali Meehan and Corrie Sanders. Whitehead scored upset victory over Solomon Haumona recently which help secure the Australian title bout.
Australian cruiserweight champion Daniel Ammann (18-2-1, 4 KOs) will punch it out over eight rounds with Athens 2004 Olympian Adam Forsythe (5-0, 5 KOs) in a heavyweight bout. Forsythe was born in New Zealand but moved to Australia in 2000. He boxed several of the worlds best amateurs.
South African heavyweight Pieter Cronjie (9-3-1, 5 KOs) will clash with Solomon Haumona (17-1-1, 15 KOs) over eight rounds. Haumona recently stopped Kirby in ten rounds. He defeated Mike Tyson’s half brother Cliff Couser on points in 2008. Cronjie holds a win over Colin Wilson and lost a ten round bout to Alex Leapai in one of the best Australian fights for 2008.
