Former heavyweight contender Lou Savarese will stage his second Fists of Fury fight night on Thursday, Oct. 8 at the Hilton Americas Hotel in Downtown Houston under the banner of Savarese Promotions. The main event features a heavyweight crosstown battle between Steve Collins, 20-1 (15 KOs), and Billy Willis, 11-16-1 (9 KOs).
Prennial crowd favorite Chase Shields, 28-2-1 (14 KOs), faces Marcus Brashears 7-12-1 (2 KOs), in a junior middleweight bout. Also on the card, female junior welterweight Tiffany Junot, 6-2-1 (4 KOs), takes on Jessica Grimes, 1-0 (1 KO). Jimmy Guzman makes his pro debut against Edwin Solis, 1-0, in a junior welterweight bout. Heavyweight Nagy Aguilera, 13-2 (8 KOs), takes on Jared Johnson, 3-1 (3 KOs). And Fred Allen, 1-0 (1 KO), squares off against Brad Bowers, 5-9 (5 KOs), in another heavyweight bout.
Fists of Fury is the first of three pro boxing shows scheduled for October in Houston. The Bayou City appears to be experiencing a renaissance in local boxing. There were at least 10 local shows during the four months preceding October and more are scheduled for November and December. Boxing seems to boom in popularity during tough economic times, for some reason or other, as it did during The Great Depression.
