WBO Cruiserweight Champion Marco “Captain” Huck is brimming with confidence ahead of his first title defence. The 25-year-old (26-1, 20 KOs), who dethroned Victor Emilio Ramirez in August, locks horns with highly-regarded challenger Ola Afolabi (14-1, 6 KOs) in Ludwigsburg on Saturday night. Today the two fighters participated in an open work-out. “I am ready,” Huck said. “I have worked so hard to become world champion – I will not allow anyone to take the title away from me. Afolabi is a strong fighter. Many people do underestimate him – but not me. I have prepared for 12 hard rounds and I really look forward to defending my title for the first time. The belt will stay in Germany!”
Huck showed his trademark punching power when doing padwork with coach Ulli Wegner today. “Marco needs to stick to the game plan,” Wegner said. “Afolabi is a tough guy but I am optimistic that Marco will leave the ring as the winner.”
The challenger, who only conducted a light training session, is also full of confidence. “I am here to win the fight,” he said. “I have had nothing for too many years to let this opportunity go. I have worked hard and the team has worked hard to make this happen.”
Also in action will be up-and-coming middleweight star Dominik Britsch (16-0, 5 KOs), who defends his IBF Youth Middleweight Title against Cleber Argente Alves. Unbeaten heavyweight Francesco Pianeta (19-0, 12 KOs) comes face-to-face with Evgeny Orlov and Bulgarian heavyweight hopeful Kubrat Pulev (3-0, 2 KOs) is looking for the fourth win in as many fights when he takes on Zack Page.
