As reported earlier on Fightnews, boxing is returning to the Club Nokia and the main event is now officially set. Oscar De La Hoya´s Golden Boy Promotions hot prospect Charles Huerta (11-0, 7 KOs) will look to remain unbeaten, as will his opponent Derrick Wilson (4-0-1, 1 KO), when the two square off in a six round featherweight main event July 30th. The bout will be televised on the Versus network from the Club Nokia in Los Angeles, California.
Huerta is fresh off of his impressive 3rd round TKO of then unbeaten Noe Lopez Jr. last month at the very same Club Nokia where he will battle Wilson. Wilson, himself, is no stranger to the Versus network. In September of 2008 Wilson delivered an electrifying performance as he defeated then unbeaten Emiliano Mendoza by way of 1st round TKO in a televised bout.
Golden Boy Promotions matchmaker Robert Diaz who matched the two fighters knows it’s a tough bout for Huerta but is very much looking forward to the bout and the rest of the fight card.
“I’m excited for one about the show at Club Nokia, they are fun, exciting and bringing a new concept to boxing. We are looking to make fun and exciting fights. Proof is that we have two undefeated prospects in Huerta vs Wilson, which is unheard of in today’s game. It’s the second undefeated opponent Huerta has faced back to back and that just shows the confidence we have in Huerta and also the commitment we have to the fans,” said Diaz.
Also featured on the undercard will be lightweight prospect Luis Ramos (11-0, 6 KOs), National Golden Gloves and two-time U.S. amateur champion Ronnie Rios (5-0, 2 KOs)and former National amateur champion, Carlos Molina (7-0, 3 KOs) against opponents to be announced.
