Saturday night’s Alvarez-Lopez telecast on Showtime attracted over one million viewers (1.04 million) for the live telecast, surpassing the 2010 Jean Pascal vs. Bernard Hopkins event as the highest viewership for a bout since the network began tracking bout viewership.
No numbers have been released yet for the competing Martinez-Chavez PPV the same night, but that telecast is also expected to have done extremely well.
Both arenas that night (located just a few miles apart) were announced as sold out by the promoters. Hopefully this terrific success will lead to more great boxing matches being made like we saw Saturday night. People want to see good fights.
