Former WBA world champion Diosbelys Hurtado (42-3-1, 25 KOs) pounded out a twelve round unanimous decision over Manuel “Marro” Garnica (25-11, 13 KOs) on Friday night at Miccosukee Resort & Gaming in Miami, Florida. Scores were 118-110, 117-111, 117-111. The bout was for the WBO Latino welterweight title.
The card promoted by All Star Boxing, Inc., “The New Generation” and Felix “Tuto” Zabala, Jr. also included some interesting undercard action. 2004 Olympic heavyweight gold medalist Odlanier “La Sombra” Solis (14-0, 9 KOs) was impressive in his Miami, Florida, debut, blowing away Midwest journeyman Dominique “Diamond” Alexander (18-7-1, 9 KOs) in the first round. Solis dropped Alexander twice, the second time Alexander fell face down for the count.
In the best fight of the night, jr middleweights unbeaten Lester “El Cubanito” Gonzalez (10-0-1, 6 KOs) and 2004 Olympian Juan “La Boa” Novoa (13-3-1, 11 KOs) battled to an entertaining six round draw. Neither fighter gave an inch and the 78-76, 77-77, 77-77 score was justified.
