The IBF has called for a July 16 purse bid for the mandatory defense of Mexican lightweight champion Miguel “Titere” Vazquez (33-3, 13 KOs) and Panamanian challenger Ammeth Diaz (32-11, 23 KOs) at IBF Headquarters in New Jersey. The fight would be a rematch of their January 2012 fight in Mexico, in which Vazquez retained his belt via unanimous twelve-round decision. Diaz earned another title shot with a seventh round KO over Martin Gethin in an IBF eliminator. Vazquez has defended the title five times in a reign nearly three years long. Most recently he won a unanimous decision over Mercito Gesta in December.
