By Boxing Bob Newman

The IBF has announced that it’s 30th annual convention will take place in Berlin, Germany from May 21-25th. The 5-Star Hotel Concorde Berlin will host the affair. Situated in the heart of Berlin City West, convention goers will be minutes away from such sights as the Branderburg Gate, Checkpoint Charlie, The Reichstag, and various remaining sections of the infamous Berlin Wall.

The IBF has crowned several champions from Germany during the sanctioning body’s existence, such as Graciano Rocchigiani, Henry Maske, Dariusz Michalczewski, Arthur Abraham, Sven Ottke. Of course, fans of the history of the “Sweet Science” will remember Germany’s first ever world champion- Max Schmeling who held the world heavyweight crown from 1930-1932. This will be the IBF’s first convention back in Germany since 2008 in the port city of Hamburg.
