IBF names 2013 award recipients

The IBF/USBA has announced its award recipients for 2013 to be presented at the Awards Dinner during the organization’s 31st Annual Convention at Resorts Casino Hotel in Atlantic City, NJ on May 21

The Jersey Joe Walcott Award, the organization’s highest honor, will go to Bernard Hopkins for his remarkable accomplishments in the ring. The IBF Female Fighter of the Year is Debora Dionicius, who has also successfully defended her title more than 3 times in spectacular fashion and will receive a championship ring for this accomplishment. The IBF Fight of The Year is Juan Carlos Sanchez vs. Zolani Tete. The IBF Comeback Fighter of the Year is Felix Sturm.

USBA – Leo Santa Cruz vs. Alexander Munoz
IBF Intercontinental – Robert Woge vs. Anatoliy Dudchenko
IBF Pan Pacific/Asia – Amnat Ruenroeng vs. Julius Alcos

In addition to this presentation, the IBF/USBA will also honor some of its inaugural champions at this dinner. The champions to be honored are Larry Holmes, Donald Curry, Michael Spinks, Charlie “Choo Choo” Brown, Mark Medal, Murray Sutherland, Aaron Pryor, and Marvin Camel. Confirmed to be in attendance are Larry Holmes Donald Curry, Michael Spinks, Mark Medal, Murray Sutherland, Marvin Camel along with current champions Bernard Hopkins, Lamont Peterson, Steve Cunningham, Debora Dionicius and Amnat Ruoenruang.

The IBF/USBA also hosts its Meet the Champs cocktail during the convention. The event this year will take place on Monday, May 19 at 7PM at the Landshark Bar & Grill across the boardwalk from Resorts Casino Hotel. In attendance at this event will be some of the aforementioned boxers along with Chuck Wepner and former IBF and USBA champions Chris Byrd, Harold Knight, Imamu Mayfield, Charles Brewer, Buster Drayton, Meldrick Taylor and Ivan Robinson.
