IBF President Daryl Peoples will visit Australia and be ringside on January 30th at the Sydney Entertainment Centre to supervise IBF middleweight champion Daniel Geale’s defense against Anthony Mundine which is the biggest world title fight held in Sydney for several years and has generated enormous interest among fight fans “Down Under.”
“I’m excited about this fight,” said Peoples. “It’s a rematch between two very good fighters that have had a lot happen in their careers since they last met. There seems to be a lot of excitement in Australia for this bout and from everything I’ve read both of these guys are well prepared. It will be great to finally visit Australia. Australia has contributed greatly to the success of the IBF over the years with several world and regional champions. Ray Wheatley does a great job for the IBF down under and a world title fight of this magnitude typifies his hard work. Bill Treacy, Garrie Francisco and Gary Shaw have done an outstanding job of promoting this event and I think boxing fans are in for a great night of boxing.”
Promoter Bill Treacy said, “It is great to have IBF President Daryl Peoples here in Sydney for the Geale-Mundine IBF world title bout. I am confident it will be a all action fight that will showcase the exceptional skills of Daniel Geale.”
The IBF in Australia has produced more world champions than any of the big three major boxing organizations which include the IBF, WBC and WBA.
All time Aussie boxing greats who captured IBF world titles include Jeff Fenech, Kostya Tszyu, Barry Michael, Lester Ellis, Vic Darchinyan, Robbie Peden, Gairy St Clair, Lovemore Ndou and current champions Billy Dib and Daniel Geale.
