IBF President Daryl Peoples has announced that the site for the IBF/USBA 31st Annual Convention. While San Diego was the more popular by just a handful of votes during the 2013 Convention in Berlin, the IBF has decided to host the convention in 2014 at Resorts Casino Hotel in Atlantic City, NJ from Sunday, May 18 – Thursday, May 22.
“We made this decision based on all that was discussed at the last meeting in Berlin related to our future conventions,” said Peoples in a letter to IBF/USBA members. “Hosting the 2014 convention at Resorts makes the most financial sense for the organization because of their reasonable lodging and event services rates, as well as the location. Additionally, we want to incorporate some of the changes to our convention format addressed in Berlin, such as the length of the officials seminars. It was with careful consideration to all of this that we made this decision.
“I would also like to add that Atlantic City has played a major role in the sport of boxing for decades. It is a popular destination for world title fights and has been the site where many historical events in the sport have taken place. Atlantic City has seen the talents of legendary boxers such as Mike Tyson, Evander Holyfield, Mark Breland, Meldrick Taylor, Bobby Czyz, Pernell Whitaker, Roberto Duran, Bernard Hopkins, Michael Spinks, Michael Moorer, George Foreman, and Lennox Lewis to name a few.
“Resorts Casino Hotel, which was also the site of our forming convention in April 1983, is ideally situated on the Boardwalk in Atlantic City. It features spacious and well-appointed rooms, indoor/outdoor pool, fitness center and spa, and several dining options including the new Margaritaville and the Landshark Bar and Grill. Nearby is the Steel Pier Amusement Park and an indoor walkway connects Resorts to the Taj Majal and Showboat casinos. There is no lack of entertainment on the Atlantic City Boardwalk. There is great dining and shopping, shows and concerts, world renowned nightlife and so much more.”
