Inside the Alexander Povetkin training camp

By Przemek Garczarczyk

Undefeated as a professional, 2004 Athens Olympic champion from Russia, Alexander Povetkin (26-0, 18 KO) likes to keep his preparations for his upcoming battle with WBA, IBF, WBO and IBO champion from Ukraine Wladimir Klitschko (60-3, 52 KO) very much behind closed doors. On October 5, in Moscow’s Oliympyjskij Sportcomplex there’s almost everything to win for Povetkin – four “Dr Steelhammer” belts with only other one in the possession of Wlad’s older brother Vitali Klitschko. Russia’s “Channel 1”, who will broadcast the Klitschko-Povetkin fight domestically, caught a rare glimpse of Povetkin’s training camp. Klitschko-Povetkin, organized by Andrey Ryabinsky, CEO of MIC Group of Companies, will be televised in US live and on a same day tape-delay basis by HBO.

    Help Support®

For 18 years,® has delivered daily boxing news to fight fans around the globe. From the beginning, we have always kept Fightnews free to our readers and relied on advertiser support. Anyway, the Miami Herald, The Guardian, and Wikipedia among others have been using the “crowdfunding” revenue model, so we thought we’d test it too.

Please consider helping out. You’re not obligated to, but even a $1 pledge would really help. And if we reach our goal, we plan to upgrade our server and maybe even nuke the ads altogether. Wouldn’t that be nice?
