Joey Winters in association with DiBella Entertainment are set to bring professional boxing back to the Westbury Music Fair in Westbury, New York for the first time since 1998. Headlining the show is rising junior middleweight prospect Pawel “Ragin Bull” Wolak (23-1, 16KO’s), who will swap punches with former contender series star “Slick” Vinroy Barrett (22-7, 11KO’s) in the ten round feature of the evening. Fightnews had the opportunity to go one-on-one with Wolak as he broke camp for his big fight on Friday night.
Pawel, how are you feeling?
I feel great. Everything is going well and I am right on schedule.
How has your training camp been for your fight with Vinroy Barrett on Friday night?
Everything is right on schedule and we are almost done with our training. We have two more days, Tuesday and Wednesday and they are going to be light days in the gym. Everything that was supposed to be done is finished. I am definitely in shape and I am ready to fight. I can’t wait.
Your opponent on Friday night is former “Contender Series” star “Slick” Vinroy Barrett. What do you know about him?
I have seen him fight before. He is definitely a crafty guy. In his last fight, he went ten rounds with Yuri Foreman. Yuri is one of the top 154 pounders out there. I know that he won’t be able to handle my pressure.
You recently changed trainers. Who is training you and how has his training benefited you?
I am training with Tommy Brooks and he is fine tuning me. I am a much different fighter now. I still will put constant pressure on my opponent, but it will be smart pressure behind the jab. Also Terrific, Kendall Holt’s trainer has been helping me out. My strength and conditioning coach Harold Brenner has got me in top shape and I am ready to go.
Who have you sparred with to prepare for this fight?
I have been getting very good sparring with Ossie Duran.
You have recently signed with DiBella Entertainment. How has that benefited you?
This is my first fight with DiBella Entertainment. Like you just saw this Saturday, he has a couple of good guys. He is definitely moving them. Andre Berto (DiBella fighter) just beat Juan Urango. Kermit Cintron (DiBella fighter) just defeated Alfredo Angulo. I hope he sees in me, what he sees in the other guys and starts propping me up. I need a promoter to stick behind me like Lou DiBella. He has the TV dates. I have improved so much. I am a young fighter. I only have time to improve more. I am getting better every day.
Any prediction for the fight?
Only that I am going to win.
If everything goes as planned, where do you see yourself a year from now?
I definitely see myself becoming a world champion by that time.
What do you think sets you apart from the other junior middleweight contenders out there?
It is definitely my work ethic. I am in the gym every day. I am working and getting better and better every day.
Anything you want to say to the junior middleweight champions out there?
I wish them the best, but I want what they got and that is those belts.
In closing, do you have anything to say to your fans, that will be there to watch you fight?
I just want to say my fans are the best. They support me 100% and I just want to thank them for all that they do.
